How SoulFire Works: FirstMove's Event Technology Explained
SoulFire's 3-Way Handshake, Ritual Blueprint, and Ephemeral Profiles are more than features — they're a new way of thinking about social events. Here's how they work.

SoulFire events get talked about for the experience they produce. But behind that experience is a carefully designed set of mechanics that make the magic possible. If you're curious about how it actually works, this is for you.
The Design Philosophy
SoulFire is built on a single observation: the reason most social events fail to produce genuine connections is not the people — it's the friction in the system.
That friction has two main forms. The first is the social risk of first contact: approaching someone you don't know, without any signal of receptivity, carries real psychological cost. Most people avoid it. The second is the lack of structure: unstructured social environments favour the most extroverted and persistent, rather than the most interesting.
SoulFire's technology addresses both directly.
The 3-Way Handshake
The 3-Way Handshake is SoulFire's core connection mechanic and the most immediately transformative element of the experience.
During a SoulFire event, you can view the profiles of other attendees in the FirstMove app. When you see someone you'd like to meet, you indicate interest. Nothing happens yet — they haven't seen your indication and won't be notified.
When that person also indicates interest in you, the app registers a mutual match. At that point — and only at that point — the app notifies both of you and facilitates the introduction.
The term "3-Way" refers to the three conditions that must be met:
- You express interest in them
- They express interest in you
- The app confirms the match and makes the introduction
No one is approached without having already signalled receptivity. No one receives an unsolicited approach. The introduction is invited by both parties before it happens.
The practical effect on social dynamics is significant. Knowing that an introduction is mutually desired changes the energy of the first interaction completely. You're not hoping they want to talk to you — you already know they do. The conversation starts at a different baseline.
The Ritual Blueprint
If the 3-Way Handshake handles the introduction layer, the Ritual Blueprint handles the evening's structure.
A standard social event is unstructured: people arrive, drift, group with familiars, and either engage with strangers or don't. The environment is neutral at best and actively unhelpful for meeting people at worst.
The Ritual Blueprint is SoulFire's event structure — a designed sequence of experiences that guides attendees through the evening in a way that maximises their exposure to different people and creates natural moments for connection.
The Blueprint typically includes:
- An arrival phase: a low-pressure opening period where attendees settle in and begin navigating the app
- Facilitated interaction moments: structured points in the evening where the format actively encourages new connections — group activities, rotating conversations, or app-prompted introductions
- Open social time: periods of unstructured socialising that feel easier because the structured phases have already broken the ice
- A closing phase: a natural end to the structured evening that doesn't leave people wondering when it's appropriate to leave
The Ritual Blueprint isn't a rigid programme. Attendees don't experience it as a schedule. What they experience is an evening that flows well — one where they naturally find themselves talking to new people without having to work hard to engineer it.
Ephemeral Profiles
The Ephemeral Profile system addresses the privacy dimension of app-integrated social events.
When you attend a SoulFire event, you create a profile that's visible to other attendees. The profile includes photos, a self-description, and whatever relevant information you choose to share. Other attendees can view your profile as they would at any social platform.
What makes Ephemeral Profiles different: after the event closes, your profile visibility ends. The information you shared isn't stored, indexed, or sold. FirstMove doesn't retain it for advertising purposes or share it with third parties.
The technical implementation means your presence at the event is genuinely ephemeral — you were there, you connected with the people you chose to connect with, and the data doesn't persist.
This matters for a few reasons. It makes attendees more willing to be authentic in their profiles — there's no permanent digital record to worry about. It creates a clear social boundary between the event space and the outside world. And it signals that FirstMove's interests are aligned with attendees' interests rather than against them.
How the Three Elements Work Together
The 3-Way Handshake, Ritual Blueprint, and Ephemeral Profiles are designed as a system rather than independent features.
The Ritual Blueprint creates the environment and the moments. The 3-Way Handshake handles the introductions within those moments. And Ephemeral Profiles give attendees the confidence to show up authentically because they know the information they share is protected.
Taken together, the system produces something that's more than the sum of its parts: an event experience where genuine connection feels natural, supported, and safe. The technology is present but unobtrusive — it does its work and then gets out of the way.
What This Means for Attendees
If you're deciding whether to attend a SoulFire event, understanding the mechanics helps you know what to expect:
- You will be introduced to people who have specifically indicated interest in meeting you
- The evening has structure that helps you meet multiple people without requiring you to engineer it yourself
- Your profile information is protected and won't persist after the event
- The price of around £15 reflects the quality of the experience, not a gatekeeping mechanism
The technology serves the social purpose. That's the design principle, and at SoulFire events, it works.
